In this blog post we want to introduce you to what we believe is the best way to make your next trip to Scotland even more significant.

More and more married couples take the opportunity of traveling to Scotland to renew their wedding vows.
But what is a vow renewal and why do people do it?
It gives you the chance to once again express your love in a ceremonial setting, to reiterate your commitment to each other.
It’s something many couples find strengthens their relationship.
But why is Scotland such a destination for vow renewals?
Because it is the perfect place for this romantic, meaningful event in your life.
First of all we have to talk about the landscape.
The landscapes
These awe-inspiring sceneries are perfect backdrops for affirming your love again.
Can you think of a better place to start a new chapter of your life together?
We could stop this blog post right there!
But there are many more reasons to renew your vows in Scotland.
The Celtic traditions
The Celtic world has many beautiful and meaningful traditions that are used during traditional weddings and vow renewals.
The most famous one being the hand-fasting.
This tradition gave us the expression ‘tying the knot’ today.
It is an ancient Celtic ritual in which the hands are tied together to symbolise the binding of two lives.
In Scotland couples use their family tartans.
But don’t worry, if you don’t have a family tartan you can use any tartan or ribbon that is significant to you.. or not!
Another great Celtic tradition is the Quaich.
The Quaich is a two handled cup.
An ancient Scottish tradition that seals the bond of two people, and marks the blending of two families.
It symbolises the love and trust implied by the bond, as the new couple shares the first drink of their marriage (or vow renewal) together.
Couples usually use Scotch whisky to keep it traditional but you can use any beverage.
But if you do like whisky it can be a great opportunity to find a special bottle to make your ceremony even more unique.
What to expect from a vow renewal with us?
We understand that organising a trip to Scotland is already a big (but exciting!) effort.
When we approached offering a vow renewal service we wanted to make it as easy as possible for our couples.
The only thing you need to renew your vows in Scotland is a celebrant.
That’s why most of our packages include matching, booking and paying for the perfect celebrant on your behalf.
So you don’t have to worry about anything, you will be guided through the experience.
Before your trip
We figure out what celebrant is good for you during a Zoom call, which is included in our vow renewal packages.
During this Zoom call we also discuss and narrow down the perfect location for your vow ceremony.
We guide you to quiet areas, far from other visitors, to make your vow renewal intimate and romantic.
We also go through all the details that can be included in your ceremony to make it personal, meaningful and unforgettable.
We can even help you with the organisation of your trip and can give you recommendations to make the most of your Scottish voyage.
Your ceremony
On the day we meet you at the location, find the most perfect spot to have your ceremony and capture all the beautiful moments of this renewed commitment to one another.
After your ceremony we take you for a fun and relaxed portrait session in the breathtaking Scottish countryside to create more beautiful memories of your trip to Scotland together.

Q&A
Here are some frequently asked questions.
“I am worried about the Scottish weather.. What if it rains on the day?”
Scotland can be unpredictable, and full of surprises indeed, just like marriage is!
But if it rains we have a couple of options:
Start the day earlier and wait for a dry spell
Re-schedule for another day
Embrace it! Your vow renewal will definitely look like it happened in Scotland. It can be fun and it definitely creates unique images.
“What do I wear for a vow renewal?”
A vow renewal isn’t a wedding. So there is no dress code to follow and you could have your ceremony in jeans if you wanted to!
But it is an important event in your life and dressing up will make it feel even more significant.
Plus smarter outfits can play a big role in the final images.
We recommend a dress for ladies and shirt and jacket for gentlemen.
Gentlemen can make it even more Scottish and wear a tweed jacket or a kilt, and ladies could use a tartan shawl to keep warm.
Ordering parcels
A vow renewal ceremony can include great items, like a Quaich, hand fasting ribbon, whisky and more.
We can receive them and keep them safe here in Scotland if you wish to order made in Scotland items.
We also offer a Celtic Keepsake Collection add-on where we take care of ordering these details for you.
“Is there paperwork involved?”
That’s the beauty of a vow renewal ceremony, there is no paperwork and no special visa needed, no hoops to jump through at all!
You will only need to write your vows.
Our service makes it even more of a breeze as we basically organise your ceremony for you.
